“Let me help you out. Hold on.”

Charles Finnegan jumped out of the driver’s seat of his Dodge Durango and ran around to the passenger side to open Briana’s door. A week had passed since she first woke from her slumber, and there was still no sign of her family. Unable to remember who she was had definitely made the choice for her to leave with Charles. He seemed to be the kindest gentleman, and to assure her that he wasn’t crazy, Charles allowed a criminal background check to be done and brought to the hospital.

After everyone was satisfied with his clean background, she was released into his care. Doctor Branigan suggested that Charles not leave her alone for a while. It was no problem for him. As he helped her to the door, they had no way of knowing they were being watched. Charles stuck his keys in the door and opened it, allowing Briana to step over the threshold.

Cinnamon scents played with her nose as she got a view of the living area. A gray shaggy rug outlined the floor in front of a black sectional couch accented with white and gray pillows. A fifty-inch flat screen TV sat on the wall. It looked to be brand new. The walls were a light gray and black.

“I’ll show you to your room,” he said.

Briana followed him down a long hallway to a guest bedroom. The colors in this room were red and white; everything accented and complimented the space. The king sized bed was huge, and she wondered where he got his taste.

“After you finish getting comfortable in here, I’ll show you the rest of the house,” he said.

“Thank you,” she responded.

“I meant to ask, what would you like me to call you?”

“I told the doctors Gabrielle,” Briana said.

“Nice, Gabrielle what?” he asked.

With hesitation, she said, “Finnegan.”

Charles’ eyebrows lifted.

“I couldn’t think of anything else,” Briana said. “Sorry.”

His lips curved into a lazy smile. “Is that right?”

He stood tall, placing his hands inside his jean pockets.

Briana hunched her shoulders in embarrassment.

“Okay, Gabrielle… Finnegan,” he said, his smile getting brighter by the minute. “I’ll be downstairs if you need me.” He stood there taking in her features as if he was seeing her for the first time. Her eyes, sexy and slanted slightly on the edges, her lashes, long and curvy. And that wasn’t the only thing curvy about her.

He turned and left the room as she checked out his butt and smirked. Briana walked around, admiring the curtains, dresser and closet space. The clock on the nightstand read three o’clock p.m. With the sway of her hand, she pulled the curtain back and looked out the window. The house next to his looked like it sat on its own plantation. There was so much yard, and already, she could tell he’d bought the house as if he had a full family to fit inside it.

Her eyes darted across the street and she noticed a black Lexus sitting at the corner. At most, she could tell there was someone inside, but she couldn’t make out what they were doing.
